Ms. Athira John, Ph.D. candidate at the Laboratory for Characterization and Processing of Polymers (LCPP), Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Maribor, under the supervision of Prof. Lidija Fraz Zemljič, recently visited her alma mater, the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology – Institute of Petrochemicals Technology (CIPET-IPT), Kochi, India.
During her lecture, she introduced the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions – Innovative Training Networks (MSCA ITN), highlighting the opportunities the program offers for young researchers, including international collaboration, mobility, and advanced doctoral training.
Athira also presented part of her ongoing Ph.D. research on polylactic acid (PLA)-based sustainable food packaging materials, giving students a glimpse into cutting-edge developments in polymer science and their applications in sustainable solutions. She emphasized how her academic foundation in Biopolymer Science at CIPET-IPT continues to support her current research journey.
The event featured interactive discussions with faculty and students, exploring possibilities for collaboration between CIPET-IPT and the University of Maribor. Athira also shared her experiences of studying abroad, providing students with valuable perspectives on academic life at the University of Maribor and the benefits of international exposure in research careers.
This outreach activity not only strengthened the ties between CIPET-IPT and its alumnae but also reflected LCPP’s commitment to fostering international research networks, building academic partnerships, and inspiring the next generation of scientists.
